Employees Celebrate 20+ Years of Service

It’s not everyday that you hear of a corporation having ten or even twenty employees that have served for twenty years or more, but RiverWoods Senior Living Community and Albright Care Services, combined, have more than fifty employees that have worked on their Lewisburg Cindy Wolfecampus for over two decades.

Albright Care Services (ACS) in Lewisburg, PA owns and operates RiverWoods Senior Living Community, also in Lewisburg; Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community in York, PA; Warrior Run Manor, a HUD-approved housing complex in Watsontown, PA; and Slifer House Museum, a Victorian mansion, on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community.

All of the employees interviewed had several things in common – they enjoy their jobs for the same reasons.  What seemed to be most important to them was that they had a variety of tasks to complete everyday and weren’t doing the same things over and over again.

Sharon Fisher, an employee at RiverWoods for 31 years, is currently a GCNA in their Nursing Care Center.  She assists about ten residents per day and has a multitude of daily duties, including: dressing, bathing, feeding, doing their nails, taking them to activities, and just simply talking with the residents.

“I really like my job,” Sharon said.  “I especially look forward to seeing the residents everyday.”

Who they work with (other staff and residents) and who they work for (supervisor) were also beneficial in keeping them happy in their positions.  Many of them agreed that if their supervisor was someone they felt comfortable around and could talk to and respect, they were more likely to be content at work and less likely to go looking for a new job.

“Good bosses, flexibility in my department, and excellent benefits have kept me at RiverWoods for almost 34 years,” Robert Hemrick, Maintenance Team Leader, said.

Albright Care Services’ Health Care Instructor, Cindy Wolfe, RN, has 27 years of service under her belt.  She started out as a Nurse Aide and worked her way up; education is currently her primary responsibility.

“Meeting new people is what I like most about my job,” Cindy remarked.  “I get to meet all of the recent hires at Normandie Ridge and RiverWoods since one of my main tasks is providing orientation.”

What’s even more remarkable is that most of these employees have never considered taking a position anywhere else.  If they have, they decided to stay because they found that other companies couldn’t provide what ACS could – wonderful department managers, fantastic training and benefits, advancement opportunities, and competitive compensation.

“Being happy in a job isn’t only being happy with your supervisor,” Cindy said.  “It’s also being able to respect the corporation as a whole by supporting its mission.”
