2008 Albright Care Services Golf Challenge a Success!
May 23, 2008

Despite the clouds and wind on Monday, May 19, 43 golfers spent the day on the Bucknell Golf Course attempting to play 92 holes of golf between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm in order to raise money for the Albright Care Services Benevolent Care Fund. With money still coming in, over $53,000.00 will be added to the Fund through this event. This will enable residents, primarily in assisted living, who have exhausted other income resources to remain on the RiverWoods (Lewisburg) and Normandie Ridge (York) campuses. RiverWoods resident Connie Cammer, who gave permission to use her name, stated, “I never expected to live to be 91, and I have nothing but gratitude for the Benevolent Care Fund. It has helped me hold onto my independence in shopping, working on prayer shawls, and making my own breakfast.”
A total of 19 hole sponsors and 18 business sponsors and underwriters donated over $31,500.00 toward that total, with the rest coming from the fund raiser golfers who solicited sponsors prior to the event. The five top fund raiser golfers received prizes which were donated by campus residents and businesses. Over 25 volunteers, which included staff and residents, helped to make the day go smoothly. The oldest participating golfer at age 88, Normandie Ridge resident Bob Kuhn, won the prize for Closest to the Line. “The proceeds are raised for such a good cause,” he commented. “It’s important to be involved in that way.”
