Albright Care Services Collects Cell Phones to Help Citizens in Need

July 6 , 2007
The Albright Care Services Mission Enhancement Committee has recently planned an ongoing project to collect cell phones on both of its sites in an effort to assist the Secure the Call Foundation in providing a 911 emergency phone to domestic violence shelters, senior centers, law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, crossing guards, and other agencies with an immediate need for 911 access. Collection boxes and flyers were designed internally, and so far, the corporation has collected nearly 50 phones that will be mailed to the Foundation.
Headquartered in Maryland, the Secure the Call Foundation collects cell phones from all over the nation to begin the process of testing, cleaning, and clearing them of old numbers so they are able to be programmed as a free 911 emergency phone for organizations in need. As their website states, “We do all the work including collecting the old phones so the organizations we work with don’t have to. And best of all – it’s free to them and free to you. Your donations keep us running.”
Albright Care Services currently has five collection boxes in place – three on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community in Lewisburg, PA; one at Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community in York; and two at Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community in York, PA.
