Normandie Ridge Holiday Happenings - Part One

Resident Association Christmas Tea

December 13 , 2006

If you’ve recently visited Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community, you probably noticed that the common areas have been busy with holiday activities throughout the month of December.

To kick off the holiday season, a Tree Trimming Social was held from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. on December 4 in Manchester Commons.  Residents from all areas of the campus had a wonderful time decorating the four trees that fill the facility with holiday cheer.  They are located near the receptionist’s desk, in The Congressional Room Restaurant, the Multi-Purpose Room, and in the Living Room.  Refreshments and snacks were provided to the decorators.

A Resident Association Christmas Tea was attended by residential living residents at 2 p.m. on December 8 in the facility’s Multi-Purpose Room.  About 80 residents were present to enjoy hot chocolate, hors d’oeuvres, Christmas music, and a poinsettia presentation made by Normandie Ridge Executive Director, Carol McKinley.

Following the Christmas Tea was the Annual Red Hat Society Christmas Brunch on December 9 in The Congressional Room Restaurant.  About 110 York area members attended the event; however, none of them were part of Normandie Ridge’s chapter of Red Hats.  Included in the menu were: home fries, cinnamon rolls, fruit cups, bacon, sausage, pancakes, coffee, and juice.  Clowns entertained the group as they ate and socialized.

At 4:30 p.m. on December 10, a Christmas Dinner was held for all nursing and assisted living residents and their families in The Congressional Room.  Approximately 100 people came to eat in the festively decorated Restaurant, including several staff members.  The menu for the evening featured a choice of chicken with cranberry apple stuffing; whipped potatoes; and French style green beans.  Visitors also had a choice of Maryland crab cake; au gratin potatoes; and glazed carrots.  Cheesecake and sugar free cherry pie were served for dessert.  The Normandie Ridge Activities Department arranged for the guests to play games and sing Christmas carols.
