What’s New at Normandie Ridge
Christmastime at Normandie Ridge
December 10, 2007
December is a very busy time at Normandie Ridge. Merriment abounds as decorations are hung and plans are made for many special events. One of those events is the annual Grande Illumination held in late December. On the nights of December 20, 22, and 24, the public is invited to drive through the beautifully lit campus between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Luminaries sponsored in honor or in memory of a loved one provide funds for Charitable and Benevolent Care for persons living at Normandie Ridge who have outlived their financial resources. This year approximately 1,500 luminaries will light the campus. A reception for donors and honorees will be held on Thursday, December 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Manchester Commons. Refreshments will be served and musical entertainment is to be provided by several groups: St. Mary’s Class Brass; Jacqueline Linsey, Pianist; Rachel Stambaugh Kauffman, Cello and Gloria Stambaugh, Piano; and the Normandie Ridge Chorus.
Many other events were held throughout the month to celebrate the Holiday, beginning with the Tree Trimming Social held in Manchester Commons on December 4. A gigantic tree was placed in the Atrium. Among the many ornaments hung on it were some made by the Normandie Ridge crafters. Trees in other areas such as the Living Room, Congressional Room Restaurant and Multi-Purpose Room were also decorated creating a very festive atmosphere for residents and employees alike.
The evening of December 16 promises to be very special for the Nursing Care Center and Assisted Living residents as they are to be treated to dinner and entertainment in the Congressional Room Restaurant. They will also be visited by Santa himself on December 22. In honor of Santa’s visit, a Social will be held, complete with gifts, appetizers and other goodies provided by the Dietary staff.
Christmas celebrations will continue throughout the month, leading to the most important celebration of all, the birth of Jesus. A traditional Christmas Eve service is scheduled with Christmas carol singing and the lighting of the Christ Candle. This service is always well attended, and residents comment that it, along with all the other activities, brings back many memories of traditions shared with their families throughout the years.
