Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community, located at 1700 Normandie Drive in York, celebrated National Senior Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 30th.  This was Normandie Ridge’s fourth year to host this event on campus.  Nearly 50 people participated in the activities, which included a triathlon (treadmill, bicycle, weightlifting, and swimming), a scooter course, water volleyball, a horseshoes tournament, scrabble, ring toss, yard darts, croquet, bocce ball, basketball, yoga, brain busters, and “mini games” for those individuals who are less mobile.  Prizes were awarded to the participants with the highest scores for each event.  All participants were given t-shirts and tote bags.

A Healthy Buffet Lunch also featured the raffling of door prizes, such as gift certificates to the Normandie Ridge Beauty Shop and a Normandie Ridge massage; and entertainment, that included the Normandie Ridge Line Dancers, jokes and a sing-along by the Normandie Ridge Chapter of the Red Hat Society, and a presentation made by Bobbi Patton, one of the facility’s physical therapists.

During the course of the day, many residents were heard talking about how much fun they were having.  Jean Myers, Edna Johnson and Charlotte Ahrens were among those who also commented that “the entire campus was in especially good spirits and the residents really appreciated the contributions and interest shown by the Normandie Ridge staff.”

Costs for the event, which was free and open to the public, were defrayed by a “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny” fundraiser held on March 31st that attracted 117 people and raised $585.
