Normandie Ridge Holiday Sweater Drive Exceeds Goal

January 3 , 2007
To help the nursing and assisted living residents of Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community celebrate this holiday season, a sweater was distributed to each of them during a Santa Social on December 23 at 1:30 p.m. for assisted living and 2:30 p.m. for nursing.
The donated sweaters were gathered as part of a Holiday Cardigan Sweater Drive planned by the Normandie Ridge Activities Department. The goal this year was to collect 115 sweaters by December 16. They exceeded their goal by accumulating a total of 150 sweaters from all over York County.
On the afternoon of the Santa Social, Santa arrived and held a ‘HO HO HO’ contest. After he distributed gifts to the residents, the group sang Jingle Bells and enjoyed refreshments prepared by the Normandie Ridge Dietary staff.
“The residents were completely taken by the beauty of the sweaters,” commented Kathy Dunbar, Therapeutic Recreation Director. “They were so thankful to receive something so useful.”
Since only 115 sweaters were needed, the remainder will be given out to new residents as a part of the welcome box they receive. All of the residents appreciate the sweaters as something they could use all year long – to warm themselves on cold winter days and to take shelter from the cool air conditioning in the summer.
“It was a blessing to see the spirit of Christmas resound throughout the area,” Kathy remarked.
This was the first year Normandie Ridge held a Cardigan Sweater Drive.
