On Saturday, September 9, RiverWoods Senior Living Community staff and volunteers took seven of the Nursing Care Center residents to Knoebels Amusement Park, Elysburg, for the day.

The residents enjoyed their time out by watching the swans swim by the covered bridge, visiting the habitat that is home to two injured bald eagles who have lived at Knoebels for nine years, eating ice cream and other treats, shopping at the Carousel Museum and Shop, and attending a bluegrass concert, “Stained Grass Window,” at the Grandstand.

The residents who took the trip were, Helen Hemrick, Betty Carter, Joan Dressler, Clara Narehood, Anna Lytle, Philip Cotner, and Martha Swartzlander.  The staff and volunteers who were present were, Nancy Wise, Veda King, Alecia Engle, Leslie Roush, Dawn Martina, Penny Golder, Sandy Watts, and her granddaughter, Sharon.  Everyone had a wonderful time.

Stacy Drum, director of Therapeutic Recreation, coordinated the outing, along with the help of the transportation department, social services, other recreation staff, and the nursing department.  It was the first time the organization took their residents to the park.

“It was great to be a part of the day and see the residents enjoy themselves so much,” said Stacy.  “I think the staff as much fun as the residents did.”
