Bucknell University Women's Basketball Team Visits Nursing Residents at RiverWoods

January 18, 2007
On January 11, about fifteen members of Bucknell University’s Women’s Basketball team visited the nursing residents on the Evergreen Lane Unit of RiverWoods Senior Living Community for nearly an hour and a half.
Nancy Wise, Recreation Assistant, coordinated approximately 28 residents that greeted the Bucknell students upon their arrival. Craft stations were set up on card tables in order to have the team assist the residents in painting sleighs. When all of the residents were finished, the girls helped with clean up.
Afterwards, punch balls and aquatic noodles were accessories to a dance routine performed to several popular 70’s songs, such as the YMCA, the Bunny Hop, Shout, and the Chicken Dance. The students then entertained the residents by showing them how some of their basketball routines, like the lay up shot, are done.
“This is a great way for the girls to reach out to the community and give back since they already receive so much as athletes,” said Kathy Fedorjaka, Bucknell University’s Women’s Head Basketball Coach. “This group really enjoys doing this kind of thing, and they always ends up with plenty of good stories to share with their friends and fellow teammates.”
