Mifflinburg Middle School Builder's Club Visits RiverWoods Residents
February 13, 2007
The Builder’s Club, a student-run service organization comprised of about 60 members in grades 6-8 at the Mifflinburg Middle School, visited the assisted living residents of RiverWoods Senior Living Community recently. About 15 of the students from the Club assisted the residents in making magnets. As an intergenerational activity that the residents enjoy, the Builder’s Club plans on visiting RiverWoods once a month.
The Builder’s Club is affiliated with the Lewisburg Kiwanis Club and has been recently combined with the Leo Club, an associate of the Lion’s Club. It has been in existence for about 15 years in the Mifflinburg School District, allowing students to join the Club in the beginning of each school year or whenever a student starts attending the Middle School.
Nicole Bailey, the Advisor of the Club, is a teacher at the Middle School and is responsible for coordinating the activities that the students take part in. Leaf raking, crafts, and dances are just a few examples of the different endeavors the students are involved with. The Club members will soon color Easter eggs at school, and something in the near future will be planned at RiverWoods.
“I want my students to understand the importance of helping others by volunteering their time,” Nicole commented.
