The Lewisburg/Milton Meals on Wheels program, based out of RiverWoods Senior Living Community in Lewisburg, celebrated their 35th year of service on March 24 from 2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. in Marlow Hall, located within the Nursing Care Center.  The gathering provided a chance for volunteers, clients, donors, and guests to enjoy each other’s company in addition to recognizing those individuals who have dedicated their time to keep the program up and running.

Mary Ellen Bartholomew and Erla Shaw, both of Milton; and Dolores Hill, of Lewisburg, were all acknowledged for 35 years of service with Meals on Wheels pins and flower baskets from Country Farm and Home, Mifflinburg.  Ninety-five other volunteers were also given Meals on Wheels pins and coupons to the RidgeCrest Restaurant on the RiverWoods campus in appreciation of their efforts.

“It’s our opportunity to recognize the contributions of our volunteers, thank donors, and provide an opportunity for clients to meet our volunteers in an informal setting, commented Dianne Kerstetter, Lewisburg/Milton Meals on Wheels Coordinator.  “I am proud of my volunteers.  They are very dedicated and care about the clients they serve.”

Seneca Foote, President and CEO of Albright Care Services, kicked off the event by greeting all of the participants.  In addition to the volunteers that were recognized, two clients, six donors (including Union County United Way Director, Cindy Needham), and six guests were present at the celebration.  Food and beverages were donated by Weis Markets in Lewisburg & Milton, and door prizes were donated by Country Cupboard Restaurant, Damon’s Grill, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Perkins Family Restaurant and Bakery, and Wal-Mart – all located in Lewisburg.

Once again this year, the Meals on Wheels program is holding their annual fundraising event – The Feinstein Challenge.  Any money donated to the Lewisburg/Milton Meals on Wheels after March 1 and no later than April 27 will be matched proportionately among all participating agencies up to $1 million.  The more donations MOW receives in March and April, the more money they will receive from the Foundation.  As of March 28, Feinstein amounts total $7340; their goal is to raise $12,000.

If you’d like to help Lewisburg/Meals on Wheels reach their goal, please send your contribution to Meals on Wheels, Albright Care Services, 90 Maplewood Drive, Lewisburg PA  17837 to be received no later than April 27.  For more information, please call (570) 522-1934.

The Lewisburg/Milton Meals on Wheels is a private, not-for-profit organization and does not receive any government funding and must be supported by community organizations, churches, and private contributors.  They deliver hot, noontime meals to persons of all ages who are physically or mentally unable to prepare meals in their homes or are unable to go grocery shopping.  Services are provided in a four mile radius of RiverWoods Senior Living Community.
