Lewisburg Resident Celebrates 80th Birthday at RiverWoods
March 22 , 2007
Margie Sturm, a Lewisburg resident, celebrated her 80th birthday with a party thrown by her husband, Doug, on Sunday, February 25 in Marlow Hall, located within the Nursing Care Center on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community in Lewisburg. Approximately 130 family members, friends (many of whom are RiverWoods residents), and colleagues attended the celebration that began at 1:15 p.m.
Musical entertainment was provided by both Lawson and Disorder, a local group consisting of Larry Lawson, Joe DeCristopher, and Carl Kirby; and the Sturm Brothers, Hans and Rolf. Some participants joined in with singing and dancing. A slide show was presented that depicted Margie at all stages of her life. Menu items included cold turkey and assorted breads; pasta salad; vegetable soup; cake; and ice cream.
Margie was born in Missouri and attended the National College for Christian Workers, a UMC school supported by the Women’s Division, in Kansas City. After college, she went on to grad school at the University of Chicago. From there, she taught English at the Lewisburg Area High School for 20 years. Margie was always very active in several community organizations including the League of Women Voters, the Social Concerns Committee of the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, and the Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition. She was also a member of the Democratic Committee of Union County. Doug and Margie reside in Lewisburg, while their two sons, Hans and Rolf, live out of state.
