Super Bowl Parties Planned at RiverWoods Senior Living Community

February 8, 2007
A Super Bowl party was planned for the RiverWoods Senior Living Community residents beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 4 in Marlow Hall and in RidgeCrest, located on the RiverWoods campus. In Marlow Hall, a meal was served for those who attended including BBQ, French fries, and party snacks. A buffet was set up in the café for the RidgeCrest party that featured chicken wings, hot dogs, shrimp wontons, meatballs, mozzarella cheese sticks with marinara sauce, a fresh fruit tray, a fresh vegetable tray, celery sticks with blue cheese dip, a cheese and ring bologna tray, soft pretzels, funnel cake, popcorn, chips, and pretzels. The approximately 30 party goers that attended each party then watched the big game on the big screen in their respective locations.
Super Bowl XLI kicked off at 6:30 p.m. between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears and was viewed by the nursing residents on the new home theatre system that was set up in Marlow Hall last year. The residents that attended the party in RidgeCrest viewed the game on a flat screen TV set up in the café. The facility used the proceeds from last year’s Annual Car Show to purchase the system; it was installed by Gelnett & Accociates of Northumberland.
Rev. Richard Hinkelman, a Garden Apartment resident, attended the party in RidgeCrest. “I thought it was a really nice event. The refreshments and buffet were great, and we got to watch the game on the nice new TV RiverWoods purchased for us."
The theater system, which cost about $6,400 to install, includes surround sound with a multi-disc DVD/CD player, AM/FM receiver, and cable television; VHS tapes can be viewed as well. The residents now have an opportunity to view movies, sporting events, music programs, or their favorite television shows just like they would in their own homes. The system is available to anyone who would like to plan an activity in Marlow Hall.
