Country Farm and Home Topiary Class to be Held at RiverWoods Senior Living Community

Keith Phelps, Country Farm and Home Store Manager, will be teaching a make ’n’ take Topiary class at RiverWoods Senior Living Community (3201 River Road, Lewisburg) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6 in the facility’s Creative Arts Room.  The cost, which includes all needed materials, is $25 per person.  The public is invited to attend, however, all interested persons must pre-register one week in advance.  The class size is limited to 12-15 people.

Mary Ellen Beaver, a RiverWoods resident, decided to make the arrangements to have Country Farm and Home of Mifflinburg come back to teach another session after the holiday wreath class they hosted was so successful.  This time, the participants will be making Spring topiaries that they could take home to display in their homes once they are finished.

Keith will be demonstrating the process by starting with a 6-8” clay pot with foam in the bottom.  Four stems of a combination of silk and dried flowers will radiate 15-18” from the top of the pot.  Ribbons will then be braided up the stems of the flowers, and ferns will be added to complete the topiary.

Mr. Phelps began teaching classes at RiverWoods shortly after his mother-in-law moved into RidgeCrest Court this past June.  Word got out that his store taught several different classes, and the residents decided to work it into their activity schedule.  The topiary class will be the fifth time Keith has visited RiverWoods to instruct craft sessions.

“I really enjoy doing these demonstrations at RiverWoods,” Keith said.  “Everyone in attendance always has a lot of fun."
