RiverWoods to Test Warning Sirens
January 28, 2008
RiverWoods Senior Living Community recently purchased a warning system that will provide an advanced alert for all residents and staff in the event of an emergency situation, namely a disaster or a tornado, and will allow time for appropriate measures to be taken. For instance, if weather conditions are calling for a tornado, staff will sound the horn continuously for 7 minutes. In the event of a disaster, a horn will sound for 2 minutes. Staff and residents have been trained on what to do during emergencies, and on Wednesday, January 30 at 12:00 p.m., the facility will conduct its first monthly test of the new warning system. This siren, even though it is designed solely for the use on the RiverWoods campus, will be heard throughout the local communities. Please be assured, however, that this will only be a test.
“In an emergency, every second counts, and by installing this siren, staff will receive as much advance warning as possible in order to allow us to implement our disaster plan as necessary,” stated Dave Mitchley, Environmental Services Director.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the warning siren, please contact Mr. Mitchley at 570-524-2271.
