July 18 , 2007
The Slifer House Museum will host the Dansbachers on Thursday, 26 July at 7 p.m. Playing German oompah and polkas, the Dansbachers are a favorite among Slifer House Museum attendees. Weather permitting, the concert will be held on the front lawn of the museum. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and a small donation for the freewill offering. In case of rain, the event will be held in Marlow Hall, located within the Nursing Care Center on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community. As is the time-honoured tradition, root beer floats will be served after the concert. The West Milton State Bank is sponsoring the ice cream. In addition, Theda and Luke Brinker are sponsoring the evening in recognition of their wedding anniversary.
The concert series continues on Thursday, 23 August at 6:30 p.m., with the Nittany Mountain Pipe Band; and Sunday, 26 August at 3 p.m., with the Front Porch Country Band. The rain date for the Front Porch Country Band is Sunday, 2 September at 3 p.m.
Slifer House Museum is the former home of Colonel Eli Slifer, who served as both Treasurer (1850’s) and Secretary (during the Civil War) of Pennsylvania. His home is the design of Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan. The museum interior is carefully recreated to evoke the life and times of the Victorian period. It is situated on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community, which is owned and operated by Albright Care Services. The museum is open for tours, Tuesdays through Sundays from 1-4 p.m.
The concert series is supported by Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), the regional arts funding partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. State government funding comes through an annual appropriation by Pennsylvania’s General Assembly and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by Community Partnerships Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council.
