Slifer House Museum to Hold Lecture Concerning Harvey Willow Murder and Murders of Snyder County
May 25, 2007
As part of the Slifer House Museum’s Murder, Mayhem, and Medicine exhibit, Snyder County historian Kathy L. Fisher will be speaking on Saturday, June 16 at 2 p.m., highlighting her research concerning murders in Snyder County.
While doing a family tree, Fisher was stumped by the lack of information concerning her husband’s family. Raising her curiosity, she began digging deeper, not knowing what she would find. Ultimately, a family member informed her of a murder within the family. This prompted further research into the early 20th century murder of Harvey Willow by his wife and hired hand.
Season tickets are available at $28 per person and may be obtained by sending a check or money order to the Slifer House, 80 Magnolia Drive, Lewisburg, PA. 17837. Season ticket holders receive preferential seating at the lectures. Individual tickets, sold at the door, will be $6.00 per person.
A bevy of rogues and rascals, charlatans and scoundrels will make their appearances at the Museum- not as visitors, but in the exhibit which complements the lecture series. The exhibit explores subjects as diverse as murder, kidnappings, phrenology (the study of bumps on top of one’s head), table rapping, and scandals of the 19th century. Many of the references have been extracted from local history sources- newspapers, regional history, and court cases. The exhibit continues through October.
