Slifer HousePolly Savidge to Present LectureMarch 9, 2007 In conjunction with the opening of the exhibit, Murder, Mayhem and Medicine, the Slifer House Museum will present Mary (Polly) Mitchell Savidge as their guest speaker at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. Season tickets are available for $28 per person and may be obtained by sending a check or money order to the Slifer House, 80 Magnolia Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837. Individual tickets, sold at the door, will be $6.00 per person. Season ticket holders receive preferential seating at lectures. Mrs. Savidge is the author of the recently-published Murder Wears a Red Hat, a novel which includes local references and a Red Hat Society within the plot of the story. She will be reading selections from this novel as well as passages from her forthcoming book. Polly will also be signing copies of her book. The lecture is the first in a series of lectures which will compliment the exhibit. A bevy of rogues and rascals, charlatans, and scoundrels will make their appearances at the Museum—not as visitors, but in the exhibit which will open on the same afternoon. The exhibit will explore subjects as diverse as murder, kidnappings, phrenology (the study of bumps on top of one’s head), table rapping, and scandals of the 19th century. Many of the references will be extracted from local history sources—newspapers, regional history, and court cases. The exhibit will continue through October.
