Slifer House Museum to Host Upcoming Musical Events

The Slifer House Museum will host the dulcimer music of husband and wife Lucy and Bruce Henry on Thursday, June 28 at 7 p.m. Weather permitting, the concert will be held on the front lawn of the museum. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and a small donation for the freewill offering. An old-fashioned ice cream social will follow the recital.

The concert series continues on Thursday, July 12 at 7 p.m. with the Repasz Band; Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m. with the Dansbachers; Thursday, August 23 at 6:30 p.m., with the Nittany Mountain Pipe Band; and Sunday, August 26 at 3 p.m., with the Front Porch Country Band. The rain date for the Front Porch Country Band is Sunday, September 9 at 3 p.m. In case of inclement weather, all musical events will be held in Marlow Hall, located within the Nursing Care Center on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community.

Slifer House Museum is the former home of Colonel Eli Slifer, who served as both Treasurer (1850’s) and Secretary (during the Civil War) of Pennsylvania. His home is the design of Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan. The museum interior is carefully recreated to evoke the life and times of the Victorian period. It is situated on the campus of RiverWoods Senior Living Community, and is owned and operated by Albright Care Services. The museum is open for tours, Tuesday through Sunday from 1-4 p.m.

The concert series is supported by Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), the regional arts funding partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. State government funding comes through an annual appropriation by Pennsylvania’s General Assembly and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by Community Partnerships Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council.
